What are Good Web Page Designs?

In a previous article, I *thought* that if I get a web site, swarms of people would come and visit the day the site went live. My paradigm about what I think is good and bad regarding web design has changed since those days.

What Does Best Web Design Really Mean?

Today, I want to know about top ranking web site design because if the site becomes important it will rank well and attract plenty of FREE traffic from search engine listings. This is far beyond "good web design info" which is what many people search for.

In order to fully understand the meaning of the words "best" and "good", one must fully comprehend by what means the definition is actually arrived at.

Metaphysics, tells us that we live in a world of "Duality". This means that every Duality value we assign by our mind is arrived at because of an equal opposite value. For example:

  • Light defines dark
  • Up defines down
  • Hot defines cold
  • Near defines far
  • Fast defines slow
  • and so on ..
The above values have no actual physical existence.

They only exist as definitions.

This is why one person might say "I am cold", while the other person standing in the same igloo might say "I am warm". Each person "judges" the same experience differently.

Or, one person might think that is is too far to walk 5 kilometers to a particular destination while another person might consider it to be nearby.

So What Are Good Web Page Designs?

People assign value judgments according to their beliefs. One person might look at a web site and judge it as a bad design based on what they think good web design is and what bad web design is in their opinion.

The good and bad value is assigned according to an individuals belief system (paradigm) at the moment of judgment.

Educated Conclusion or Assumption?

There are really only two main paradigms that assign value judgments to web site design. Each person who visits a site has formed their own paradigm based either on an educated fully informed decision or assumption.

  1. The Web Design or End User Community
  2. The Search Engine Optimization Community
The Web Design/End User Community Paradigm

If it looks good, then it is a good web design.

If it has nice looking images which appeal to the ego of the client, there is a good chance that a person will want one of these good looking sites.

In many cases, the client's naivety is capitalized on because the client has not yet gained the capacity to recognize the need to get traffic to the web site. Often, the client (for some unknown reason) thinks that if you build it, they will come. But will they really?

The Search Engine Optimization Community Paradigm

If your web pages achieve high search engine rankings, then it is a good design. It is really a Top Ranking Web Site Design.

The focus of SEO is to get FREE search engine traffic while at the same time creating a user friendly site that is extremely easy to navigate so that visitors never get confused, lost or distracted from the course of action that the web site owner wants them to follow.

These sites are Human Friendy and Robot Friendly.

Tip - Do your own SEO and avoid strategies that will get your site banned! There will be more about this in future articles.

The Duality of Web Design

In the above duality examples, I did not say that good defines bad. That's because these values do not have an existence outside the parameter of Judgment. These values exist only in the mind of the beholder based on preconceived values and beliefs (opinions).

For example, if two people were stranded on a tropical island, both would agree that it is hot, but one person could judge the experience as good while the other could judge it as bad.

So really, there is no good or bad web design in and of itself. The opinion must be punctuated with a criteria. Examples of criteria:

  • It is good/bad based on SEO criteria
  • It is good/bad based on visual criteria
  • It is good because it is easy to navigate
  • It is good because it is making money
  • It is bad because there's no search engine traffic
  • It is bad because there's no quality content
Take notice of the second last point above: "It is bad because there's no search engine traffic". This conclusion would be arrived at from an SEO paradigm.

But, the owner of the web site might say it is a good web design because it looks good. Or later on down the track, the owner might say it is good because the site is making money as the result of the owner driving an existing customer base to the site.

Now listen up. One of my sites has been judged as bad by some of my associates, but when I told them about all the revenue the site generates, they got bewildered.

They could not comprehend it because there is no visible signs of anything for sale, so they start to form a new belief about what they *think* they know.

Top Ranking Web Page Design

There are now many great looking sites that achieve high search engine rankings. The strategy required is to design the site right at the beginning with SEO in mind.

Obviously other methods of driving traffic to a site should not be neglected, however, a nice search engine friendly web site should always generate extra FREE traffic.
